Rules and Regulations
- Each entry can be submitted by an individual or a group. In the case of a group submission, event organizer can only communicate to one person that will represent the whole group.
- Copyright of each short film submitted has to be owned by the person submitting or permission must have been obtained from the original owner.
- To fulfill the thematic requirement, each entry can be about Southeast Asia as a whole or a specific culture/people of the region. For example, the film can be about Yangon urban culture, life in Penang, or a day in the life an ASEAN staffer. - Each entry must be submitted online with one application and entry fee before July 20, 2009 at 10:00 EST
Early bird entry fee: $10.00 (if received on or before June 15, 2009 23:59 EST)
Normal entry fee: $25.00 (if received between June 16, 2009 00:00 EST and July 20, 2009 23:59 EST)
If submitting more than one entry: $5.00 each additional entry.
Entry fee is waived for filmmakers based in ASEAN plus East Timor. ASEAN countries are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Only filmmakers based in ASEAN plus East Timor may take advantage of this offer.
Payment can be made online.
- The duration of the film must be 10 minutes or less, including credits.
- Film has to be in English or subtitled in English. As English is the working language of the competition, this requirement is to ensure fair judging and voting.
- Filmmakers are responsible for obtaining the rights of music, graphics, and any other works of art included in their film. To be considered for the competition, entry has to fulfill the thematic requirement which is “Southeast Asian Life, Culture, and People.” Please explain as clearly as possible on how your film fulfills this requirement.
- The five (5) finalists will be contacted and requested to send the short film in DVD NTSC format, which have to reach the organizer by September 1, 2009.
- The winner will be announced in the closing time of the 2009 US ASEAN Film Festival in October 2009.
- The winning film will be showcased on the US-ASEAN Creative Project Portal for six (6) months following win.
- US-ASEAN Creative Project retains rights to use short films and images for promotional use of the festival. The respective filmmaker for every image or moving image used by US-ASEAN will be given due credit.
