We are honored to have such a group of experts in the various aspects of the film industry. In keeping with the international spirit of US-ASEAN Creative Project, our judges come from different places in the United States and Southeast Asia.
Anchalee Chaiworaporn
Film Critic and Researcher
Anchalee Chaiworaporn has contributed for both local and foreign publications including Cahier du Cinéma and Variety as well as other publications from South Korea, Spain, France, England, Japan, etc. She won Thailand’s best film critic in 2000 and best feature writer in 2002. Today, she is doing research widely on Asian Cinema, in South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand under the fellowships of Nippon Foundation, Japan Foundation, and Asian Scholarship Foundation. She has also been working as a consultant for Cannes’ Critic Weeks, Venice Film Festival, etc.
Colin Goh
Filmmaker and Writer
Colin Goh is a Singaporean writer and filmmaker who is now based in New York City. His last film, Singapore Dreaming, which he wrote, directed, and produced with his wife Yen Yen Woo, won the Montblanc Screenwriters Award at the 2006 San Sebastian International Film Festival, the 2007 Audience Award for Narrative Feature at the 2007 Asian American International Film Festival, and the Best Asian/Middle-Eastern Film Award at the 2007 Tokyo International Film Festival.
Konrad Ng
Professor of Film Studies at the University of Hawaii
Dr. Konrad Ng is an assistant professor of creative media at the University of Hawaii (UH) where he teaches courses on cinematic aesthetics, history and criticism with a focus on Asian and Asian American cinema. Before joining the faculty at UH, Dr. Ng has held many positions the field of Asian Pacific cinematic culture and criticism. He was the Museum Curator of Film and Video at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, a film programmer for the Hawaii International Film Festival and a program assistant for the UH/East-West Center International Cultural Studies Program. Dr. Ng is a member of the Global Film Initiative and works with Australia’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards. His current research explores Asian Pacific American cultural production during the 2008 U.S. Presidential election.
Tom Vick
Film Programmer for Freer & Sackler Galleries of Smithsonian Institution
Tom Vick is the film programmer for the Freer and Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian Institution. He is the author of Asian Cinema: A Field Guide, published by HarperCollins/Smithsonian Books.
